Mod Preorder Update 4/5/22

Hey everyone,

Since our last update, the engineering contractors we hired to optimize our chipset (for those that haven't seen it, more information can be found about this in our previous blog post) have completed their revision and design work. They made several changes past the resistors which I'll outline below. They have also requested an additional 16 days of work to revise the board layout and draft schematics based on these changes, which we have approved.

For those of you interested in more detail on the engineering side, I'll include a basic outline of the information we received from them. Otherwise you can skip to the paragraph at the bottom for the rest of the update.

Some revisions made:

-Change to an alternate primary inductor

-Modification of the control loop compensator

-Modification of the output cap bank

-Modification of the grounding of the chip

-Updated USB-C resistor configuration

-New connector and bus for LED board

Here's a breakdown of the 16 days they requested from us:.

Bench test with battery: 2 days

Final BOM testing: 1 day

Schematic Review: 1 day

Layout- Placement: 4 days

Layout- Placement review: 0.5 days

Layout Routing: 4 days

Layout Routing review: .5 days

Layout- 3d models: 1 day

Hardware bring-up testing: 2 days

Total time: 16 days / 128 hours

So after these sixteen days we will still proceed with our plan outlined previously. When we receive final documents from them we'll immediately have sample boards fabricated and do final testing on them. When that is complete we will have the entire batch fabricated, receive them and assemble and ship them. We feel like we're in good shape moving towards the end, and although we do have those additional 16 days added in to our timeline, at this point it's a small amount of time to skip past what could've been a much longer debug process had we not hired these engineers. This puts our timeline towards the end of May. We will post another update when the Layout work is complete and chips are being fabricated. As always we appreciate your patience with us. If you have any questions about your order in particular, don't hesitate to contact us via our site chat.
